Currently, our Heroes for Hire event is running and will continue until October 10th at 11:59 PM Pacific. Here is the rest of the event schedule for the month of October!

Greetings!

I am TheArtofRawr, Lead Systems Designer for Marvel Heroes 2016, and in case you haven’t heard, we are working on the biggest systems update in the history of the game! Last week, we shared a glimpse of what we have in store for you, focusing on Hero Power Updates, and in particular, Power Points, Talents, and Traits. As we mentioned, we will be updating four core game systems over the course of multiple game updates:

  • Hero Power Updates

  • Item Updates

  • Omega System Updates
  • Personal Difficulty Slider

Last week, we discussed the changes to Hero Powers. Today we will be discussing Items, and more specifically, Bonus Power Ranks and what to expect from Item drops in the future.

Bonus Power Ranks

As we mentioned last week, Powers will now have the benefits of maximum Power Points allotment incorporated directly into their stats at all times, scaling with your level. So now that power scales as you level, bonus power ranks become obsolete, and Items will no longer need to grant power point bonuses. This expands the design space tremendously, but what does this mean for existing Items?

When this update launches, all current Items that grant Power Points will be adjusted in some way. The affixes that granted Power Points (e.g., “+1 Power Rank to Shield Throw,” “+1 Rank to Furious Lunge,” etc.) will be removed, and we’ll be performing a balance pass on Unique items to ensure their continued viability. One of the main ways we will be adjusting Items is through the addition of more Attributes such as, Strength, Energy, Fighting, etc. With the new Traits system, these will become far more desirable for all Heroes. This also means that Items in the first five slots (hereafter “slots one through five”) of common through cosmic rarities will be losing Power Point bonuses and Power Point grants in favor of Attributes and other bonuses that will be more advantageous. Here are some examples of Uniques in their current state in the game now compared to their new versions after the system update:

Furthermore, all Items and recipes that grant Power Points are being reviewed and updated. This also includes the cosmic tier of Cybernetics, which will get some fun new powers. Keep an eye out for the full list of changes down the road.

The Future of Items

Currently, Item rarity for slots one through five Items progresses from Uncommon to Rare, Rare to Epic, Epic to Cosmic, and Cosmic to Unique. Uniques have acted as a ceiling that’s limited us from expanding to new rarity tiers in the Item system. So we are replacing their spot in the item hierarchy with something far more expandable and powerful. As a result, Unique slots one through five Items will no longer drop in game. But don’t worry–any and all Unique Items you have earned will still work as before.

Starting with this update, instead of Unique drops, you’re going to get something much, much better...

Introducing: Omega Rarity

So if Uniques are no longer dropping, what loot will players hunt for? We are introducing a new Rarity Tier: Omega Rarity. As mentioned, these will replace Uniques in the rarity pool for slots one through five Items. They will only drop at level 60 and will be tightly integrated into our new Difficulty Slider system that we will discuss in an upcoming dev blog.

Omega Items are broken down into two distinct components. The first is a series of randomly rolled affixes from a shared pool. These are similar to the random affixes that can roll on uncommon through cosmic Items, but retuned and with new affixes added. The randomly rolled affix pool will be “filtered” for each hero. This means that you won't ever find things like summon ally damage on an Item for Blade.

The second component of an Omega Item is the Omega Power. The goal for Omega Powers is to enable players to modify their powers in ways that can palpably impact your build choices. Make no mistake about it–Omega Items will be build-defining mechanics rather than static buffs to Powers. While we don’t have any screenshots of the Items under development, we want to share a few mockup examples of the new Omega Items. (Note: these mockups are not final and may possibly change before going live).

The goal of these is to make some simple and fun options for players that will impact what powers you select. This Black Cat Omega Power is just that. This item adds a Caltrops power to Black Cat’s Quick Getaway much like the one Deadpool has.

This is one of the first Omega Powers that we designed. It is an elegantly simple, yet highly effective power. Notice how it makes Shield Bounce much more powerful and compelling to use.


For ages, Rocket Raccoon players have wanted Photon Minigun to pierce targets (damage projectile will continue through enemies and strike enemies behind them). In this update, it becomes an Omega Power.

Mjolnir is one of the most iconic and powerful Items in the Marvel Universe, and it will have an Omega Power tantamount to its status.


War Machine currently gains different ammunition bonuses depending on different abilities he uses. Before this update, this mechanic was limited to ranged builds, but with Omega Items, it will become available to melee players too.

We hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into Omega Items. There’s a lot more in the works where these came from! Lastly, there is one more order of business we need to discuss regarding the impact of the new Omega Item update: Any-Hero Uniques.

Rare Boss Items

If we are building our Omega Items to impact hero powers in a specific way, what does this mean for Any-Hero Uniques? Having Any-Hero Uniques compete with Hero Uniques has been problematic for a long time. First, it’s expected that Captain America should use Captain America’s shield, for example, and that Iron Man should use Iron Man’s armor. While the idea behind Any-Hero Uniques is mechanically innocuous, it is thematically inconsistent with the Heroes and the Marvel Universe. We still want bosses to have rare Items that you hunt for that are very powerful, but we are moving away from those going into slots one through five. Instead, they’ll be in different Item slots including Artifacts, Medallions, Rings, Insignias and others.

As you can infer, the Items Update extends to many areas. Some of the more nuanced subtopics involving Loot Tables, Medkits, crafting changes, and so on will be unpacked in future dev blogs.

What kind of ::: one shots / Story chapters : Would you like to see?

Me personally, i'd love something really awsome, to be honest. all these events are pretty much the same. just give you different stuff to do in the world we already explored countles times.

Now, for example what i would prefer. would be if they made a One shot story with Luke Cage launch on NETFLIX. instead of an event. it's my personal opinion. no idea how others think about this. but it also gives you much more to do in future.

but to the point, i will only do top 10 just because i want to see some other amazing ideas people have!

What kind of one shots/story chapters would i like to see?

Apocalypse - I am still suprised we haven't seen anything about him. ( Please don't tell me the things about MCU and FOX issue, cause lately Marvel CONTEST OF CHAMPIONS had a very long 3 months event about X-MEN, it was all about them. )
So i do not see any issue right here. since MH and MCOC had the rights before the whole drama, yet i do not think one shot would be enough. give us a chapter that is made out of 5-7 acts

Civil War - This time, i'd prefer it as a full story chapter. maybe made out of 6 acts, or two whole chapters since the story plot can be big? dunno. just make it a bit like MUA2 although a bit more enjoyable.

Age Of Ultron - I think it was an missed opportunity when they first intorduced they're gonna do something with it. although it doesn't mean they still cannot add it to the game, right? i mean imagine an amazing chapter made out of 6-8 acts that are all about Ultron's invasion. would be freaking cool!

Shadow King - Honestly one of the best yet underrated villains in the whole x-men franchise, i think this one deserves an extreme chance to be seen in-game as a boss. it would be astonoshing to actually fight against Shadow King. let's say someone is kidnapped in astral plane, like Magik in XML, and you have to rescue her ending in a colloseum again in XML where you fought against some of the x-gladiators. then the final battle. it would be freaking-tastic! and i'd prefer this as a whole chapter or even two. i think it has too much potential to end up being a one shot.

Collector/Mojo/arcade - One of these three, unless they can do something original with all three, collects heroes/villains for their enjoyment and own idiotic purposes. would be neat, although i see it more as a one shot.

Sentiles - Mastermold - Megasentiles - Something aka mutant hunt. would be amazing. i always loved that aspect of X-MEN, but it shouldn't be only them. they should add trask, some purryfiers. etc. i think one chapter made of 4 acts would be great

Hydra invasion - I am not gonna go into any details. but i am pretty sure gaz can do a lot of amazing stuff. there's so much that can be done with just the title itself lol. depends on gaz their vision. it can be either one shot or chapter. it's their call

Galactus - This one has not yet made it in the game, HOW?! LOL. i mean he needs to have his own WHOLE CHAPTER! and better 8 acts in it! this one has a lot of potential! Skrulls, etc etc

Shi'ar - A lot of potential can be explored in this one as well. either one shot or story chapter, again, depends on the vision from our beloved devs. the story can either center around m'kraan crystal, Phoenix. etc etc

Thanos - Same as galactus.... i mean. he is one of the most powerful villains in MCU. how is he not yet in-game?! i want to be able to fight him with my Jean! his story can be so big and huge and can be so much explored that i'd say give him a story chapters made of 6 acts. unless you're gonna make one shots with acts as well ;p

This wasn't a thing to question and it turned out to be an amezballs character. Torn up between loyalty to the Kree and loyalty to the Kree law. Fighting for the Supremor, against the Supremor and then becoming Supremor. Fighting with a hammer that puts Thor's Hammer to shame. It's called universal waypon and it can do a lot of things in hand of Ronan The Accuser. His armor also gives him an ebility or two. Ronan The Accuser

Introduction

Early Life
Ronan is a member of the Kree empire aristocracy, a small group of Kree who can trace their ancestry back to the original Kree tribes on their home planet Hala. After Ronan completes his formal education, he is enrolled in the Kree Public Accuser Corps. Ronan responds well to his training, and is constantly promoted. Finally, in an incident on the Kree border , he stops a fleet of Skrull ships from entering the Kree's airspace. For this, he is made Supreme Accuser of the Kree Empire, responsible for enforcing the laws and decrees of the Supreme Intelligence.

First Contact
Ronan's duties have caused him to encounter many of Earth's heroes. Ronan's first Earth encounter on Earth is with Fantastic Four. When the Fantastic Four take a vacation on the island of T-Vu in the South Pacific, they are attacked by Kree Sentry 459, who was left on the island many thousand years ago. The last instructions of the Sentry was to keep any intruders off the island. When the Fantastic Four destroy the Sentry, the Supreme Intelligence sends them a dream during which they are instructed to await their trial and execution by Ronan. Ronan makes an attack against the Fantastic Four, but he is ultimately defeated.

In the future paths or Kree and Inhumans were tangled. First Ronan imprisoned them and made Black Bolt second in command but when chalanged by him for freedom of Inhumans Ronan lost. Even further in the future Inhumans became benefactors of Kree in the event War of Kings where they waged war against Skrulls. Ronan even married Crystal of the Inhumans. At that time he was Supremor, the highest in the Kree hierarchy making her second to rule over them. Now they are separated.

Powers and Skills

Kree Accuser
Being of the Kree and in good shape, Ronan has strength, stamina, and speed beyond that of the normal human as well as a faster healing factor. As a public accuser Ronan also has a tactical mind, superior combat skills, increased intelligence, and the ability to adapt to different environments. Ronan can lift or press around 10 tons.

Accuser Armor
Ronan usually wears a suit of cybernetic armor that enhances all of his natural abilities as well as protecting him. Increased strenght allows him to lift or press around 80 tons. His armor contains scanners, a cloaking device, can generate electric charges, and allows the user to freeze targets. It also allows Ronan to fire powerful blasts from his eyes.

Universal Weapon
Being the Kree Supreme Public Accuser Ronan wields a Universal Weapon. The one that Ronan wields is the most powerful. This weapon allows it's wielder to fire blasts of energy, create force fields, and fly. This weapon also allows Ronan to harness cosmic energy for a variety of effects including matter and energy manipulation.

[From me] - By variety of effects they mean a ridiculous amount of different amazing effects. To see what he can do and look at his greatest feats I recomend Ronan Respect Thread Quotes and powers I wrote down come in big part from there.

Power Trees

  • Ronan The Accuser
    As Ronan himself says. Accusers don't need weapons they are weapons. It's hard to divide this abilities in two groups that wouldn't be random so I made only one tree. This tree contains powers granted by his armor like flight, eye beams, criogenic enprisonment and strenght needed for powerful blows with his hammer. Most powers however come from that hammer: the Universal Weapon he wields. It can do multitude of things starting with simple shooting out beams or creating waves of energy ending on creating fields where time goes faster to age his enemies or ability to nulify someones personal relation with gravity.

Ronan doesn't have spirit but Cosmic Energy. This fast regenerating resource is used in large quantities by his powers similar to Surfers Power Cosmic. Cosmic Energy regenerates despite power use. Amount of Cosmic Energy can be increased as well as it's regeneration speed [this amount is recalculated from the regular speed noted on items].
There are powers that don't require Cosmic Energy or can be used without it but when there is Cosmic Energy they have additional effect. Powers that don't use Cosmic Energy are tagged with "0" and those that don't require Cosmic Energy but can be augmented with Cosmic Energy are tagged "0+". Those aren't basic powers because Ronan doesn't have basic powers.

Ronan also doesn't have one signature power but he have many powers that are powerful so those powers are boosted accordingly to recompensate for lack of the signature. One of those powers would be: "Unleashed Blast".

Ronan's hammer handle changes size from one handed to two handed depending on the last ability used. It also can desintegrate and be recreated in the air with ease.

  • Hit with your unviersal weapon like the hammer that it also is.
    Wide arc of slow powerful hits that can stun.

Teleport Movement lvl 1

  • Your Universal Weapon allows you to reconstruct yourself in different place with ease

Multiblast Ranged lvl 1

  • You are obstructing the law. End now before I found you guilty.
    Hodling your universal weapon vertically in front of you, you release from it's head 3 to 5 thin green beams of power hiting enemies in front of you. Fast+ attack speed.

Unleashed Blast Ranged, Area

  • When you want someone taken out of the battle quickly. Permanently. You can blast them hundread meters into the earth.
    Extend your hand with hammer in horizontal position pointing at your enemies and shoot single wide powerful red beam that not only damages everything in it's path line but also pushes it along the beam.

    Stun at the end of knockback 0,5s

Rearange Molecules Area

  • Strugle is pointless. You are all powerless in the face of Ronan the Accuser.
    Rearange matter around you destroying enemy weapons, weakeing their defenses. You just stand like a bastion and everything around you almost desintegrates.

Criogenic Prison Melee

  • Usually it's just for containment. In your case it's the coffin to be shatered with the weapon of justice.
    Grab your enemy and cover them with incredible cold until they freeze solid. In this state they take more dmg from direct hits [melee or kinetic/physical ranged force] with option to shater the enemy. Hold your hands in front of you on your enemy and the big ice cover apears in animation.
    Dmg X 2/s for the animation duration [I don't know how long it would be]
    Freeze
    Melee and kinetic ranged attacks against frozen enemy have +X critical rating
    Cooldown

Shockwave Melee, Area 0+

  • Be sited in front of the Accuser!
    Hit ground with your hammer sending shockave in a line making a fisure in the ground [straight line but jagged curvy/ lightning shaped]. If you have Cosmic Energy this shockwave if filled with green power that burst upwards like light coming from within the fisure.

Flight Travel Power

  • Holding your Hammer vertically with both hands close to your chest you fly in straight pose.

Accuser Objects Ranged

  • You have been found guilty by the Kree Law. Now die.
    Chose target enemy. Cover yourself with green, impenetrable, half-spherical shield for Xs standing immobile [turning toward enemy if he moves]. At the end of this time your shield shoots from it's surface a wide green beam at the target desintegrating from it's base toward the point of beam release. If the target is defeated before the shield ends you don't shoot and half of the Cosmic Energy spent is added back to the pool.
    X dmg absorbed by the shield. - large amount so it's in most cases an invulnerability.
    20% dmg negation after shield reaches it's limit.

    Dmg X to the enemies in the path – significantly less
    Cooldown on the bigger side

Dispatch the Unruly Melee 0+

  • "-You can no longer harm me or anyone else. Universal weapon has seen to that. -What? What? -The unviersal weapon of a Kree Accuser is sophisticated and powerful ... Oh,. It's alos a giant Hammer."
    Single target power. Very slow attack speed, heavy one handed swing that hits enemy and if you have enough Cosmic Energy it also creates a blue shock energy from the point of impact that hits the target and arcs in close area around him. If the Cosmic Energy is used targeted enemy from the start of the power use [when you are in melee range to hit him and pressed the button to attack so before the hit even starts] is weakened and you have +X Defense againt him [both for a short time].

    Dmg X – arcing dmg around the target – lowest
    +X Defense against targeted enemy

Temporary Gravity Cancellation Ranged, Area

  • Say hello to the stratosphere!
    In small area not far from you [can be next to you] you cancel personal gravity of enemies which sends them really high into the air. After that time normal gravity starts working and drags them down at terminal velocity until they hit the ground. Impact hits potential enemies they fallen onto. Enemies are shot up and after Xs they come back hit the ground har.

    Dmg X to the enemies they fell on – significantly lower

Omnidirectional Wave Melee, Area

  • Enough of this child play and interference!
    Rise your hammer high with both hands then hit the ground with it's base making blue explosion around you that knocks enemies back.

Whirlwind Melee, Area

  • No defense, no matter how unusual can't protect you from justice. Universal Weapon gives me the way to deliver the verdict no matter what.
    From your extended hammer create a whirlwind. Short medium width cone.

Drown in Lava

  • "Burn."
    Choose target point. Holding the power button point the visual indicatior [a wide line] from the targeted point into target direction. This will be the line where the lava fisure will be created. If this tech isn't possible then it's just a straight line from the target point going away from you.
    Point head of your hammer to the ground in target area and send there blue energy. From the targeted point energy travel in a line through the ground breaking it and creating a fisure with lava bursting out of it. Enemies that were on that path drown in lava. Fisure stays for Xs
    Dmg X to enemies that stood ther initialy [grays disapear in lava]
    Dmg X 2/s to anyone who touches the lava after initial hit
    Long cooldown

Eyebeams Ranged

  • An accuser doesn't simply posses a weapon. He is a weapon.
    Single target channel power. After Xs of constant fire enemy burst into flames.

    Cooldown after the end of channeling

Temporal displacement bubble Ranged

  • "It's a simple matter for me to establish a temporal displacement bubble around ... that accelerates time itself! In seconds you age decades. Until you are no more than dust."
    Hold your hammer horizontaly that it goes from side to side in front of you. Target enemy in close range starts aging fast as you channel your power. With passing time effects of ageing become more and more severe.

    Slow that gets bigger and bigger every 1s
    After 2s enemy becomes weakened
    After 4s enemy becomes vulnerable
    After 6s this power gets +X critical hit
    After 8s this power gets +X critical dmg
    After 10s this power ends
    Cooldown after the end of channeling

  • Without investment in expanding Cosmic Energy Pool and Cosmic Energy regeneration it shouldn't be possible to achive the 8s mark. This power can achieve full potential if the build is designed for it [with additional slow for example]. In other builds it's just useful power to have.

The defense. Rests Melee 0+

  • If you have Cosmic Energy you protect yourself with your glowing hammer blocking dmg and giving you +X defense against enemies that you blocked. After that without Cosmic Energy use you hit with your other hand enemy droping him to the ground. If you don't have Cosmic Energy this is only a hit with back of your hand or side of your hammer [animation have two hits if you still don't have Cosmic Energy and use it twice in a row].

Ultimate

Guilty will be judged Ranged, Melee Area

  • Go home, I have no need for you. ... Ronan the Accuser have found you guilty and this is your punishment.
    Point your Universal Weapon choosing big targe area that have to cover you as well [you see big pale circle like spotlight which you have to place on the ground]. Pale energy shoots from the hammer and encompases enemies in that area. All of them disapear – you send them to their homes/ planets/ dimensions. After 10 seconds those who would survive the dmg come back.
    After you send them you target small area marking enemies there as guilty. Energy from your hammer surounds you with a blue aura then you jump high in the air with your Universal Weapon over your head. Then you land on guilty enemies hiting them with enourmous power. Impact of your hammer shoots masive amounts of blue energy upward like an eruption of light from the ground. After that you deal more dmg against the guilty enemies that survived.

  • Teleportation:
    Gray and Blue don't come back [are transported home]
    Dmg X to others
    If they survive the dmg they come back after 10 seconds

  • Hammer hit:
    Dmg X
    Stun
    You deal +X dmg against guilty
    Allies deal +X dmg against guilty – smaller bonus.
