Biography


Marrow (real name Sarah, last name unknown) is a mutant with the power to control her own bones for a variety of purposes, both offensive and defensive. From a young age, she knew only the underground darkness of the Morlock communities beneath New York and New Jersey.

At some point, the Morlocks were transported to another dimension by the powers of Mikhail Rasputin, Colossus’ and Magik’s older brother. This was a strenuous dimension marked by serious pain and toil; only those who reached the top of a fearsome summit were permitted to join Mikhail’s Gene Nation. Marrow was one such Morlock.

In this dimension, time passed more slowly; Marrow and Gene Nation returned to Earth to find that only a handful of years had passed. Gene Nation embarked on Mikail’s commands, campaigning to attack and kill populations of surface-dwelling humans. It was on one such assault that Marrow first encountered the X-Men.

Callisto, Marrow’s Morlock mentor and maternal figure, was injured by a Sentinel during the comics storyline Operation: Zero Tolerance. Though she survived, she felt compelled to direct Marrow to seek out the X-Men for help and protection. Marrow did indeed join the X-Men for several years, acting under Wolverine’s tutelage.

Marrow’s mutant powers were taken from her during the events of Decimation, although her bones still jutted out from her body painlessly. Despite this, she was able to join X-Force with some curious semblance of her powers still intact. It would appear that Marrow willingly approached Russian businessman Yevgeny-Malevitch Volga and persuaded him to give her her powers back. (That is, Marrow was a mutant who became a mutate.)
