Hero Build Suggestion: Omega Red

While I understand Omega Red is stereotypically a villain, there is a plausible method to the path of making him a hero, as well as some really interesting game mechanics that could really offer a new playstyle based on Risk/Reward mechanics and lots of regen. His primary role will be to serve as a tank with passive PB AoE.

I should also mention this is a distinctly different rework of the Omega Red done by @Robbers, but definitely cribs some from his build notions but hopefully by the time it is done, will be a better overall representation of the character. Overall this character is pretty tanky, survivable and should be mostly about mid level DPS. Character is designed for Physical/Energy

Biography

to solve the horrible villain issue we'll be operating on the notion that this is the clone Omega Red, not the actual Arkady Rosovich who is definitively dead according to Marvel cannon and also he was historically not a very nice guy on top of being a death monger... not that dying is ever really a thing in Marvel, except for Uncle Ben, and I suppose it's only a matter of time before he's resurrected too for no good reason... Creating the character will also allow him to appear in game as the villain version of himself easily enough, potentially as part of the Brotherhood of Evil mutants, or perhaps, if Sabertooth and Maverick are released, a really neat one off mission regarding Weapon X (kind of like Bronx Zoo) which could utilize the merc templates.

Omega Red was built from the remains of the original Omega Red, Arkady Rosovich (a Russian Super Soldier Mutant) by an organization called the White Sky. He, along with his siblings that make up the Omega Clan, was implanted with false memories that result in a strong grudge against X-Force who, as they believe, was hired by some pharmaceutical company to kill their father who discovered a cure for their autoimmune diseases.

Later these memories were shown to be inaccurate and Omega Red, like his predecessor Arkady, seeks out a cure for his autoimmune diseases for him and his siblings in the Omega Clan.

I think this back story which is taken directly from the character template shows sufficient enough difference that allows he's not Arkady and the possibility of him being heroic, although not well trusted (kind of like Sabretooth at times) seems a lot more likely. That said, his need for the carbonadium synthesizer makes him an easy candidate to rely on SHIELD's Omega research program in order to maintain being alive, and in exchange he can work as their attack dog.

STATS AND HERO SYNERGIES

Stats

Sorted by official stat/fan rated sourced from marvel wiki

Intelligence 4/4
Strength 5/6
Speed 3/4
Durability 5/6
Energy Projection 4/5
Fighting Skills 6/7

I'm not sure how the devs might want to implement this, but based on the notion that Omega Red typically requires a team to take him down, I'd suggest he be in the 600 ES bracket, especially since this build will require some neat mechanics to be introduced. adding to his stats by level I assume should take priority to whatever balances the character best for the game

Synergies

Lv. 25 Synergy: +X health on enemy defeat
Lv. 50 Synergy: +X spirit on brutal strike

Combat Trees

Combat for Omega Red is split into the three trees of: Cybernetic Implants/Death Pheromones/Mutated Super Soldier and some of his abilities rely on a secondary resource of "death energy". Damage types are physical and energy and this area is still under heavy construction. I still have to add some clarity/animation notes and a couple more powers to make this build something worth looking at, but the basic concept is there now.

Secondary Resource: Death Energy

Death energy is a secondary resource bar divided into ten increments of ten points each, for a total of 100 point on the bar (I'm thinking black base and red fill with red lights for each portion filled, the last light is yellow (Russian color scheme?).
The Bar is filled by enemy defeats with death energy. A typical mook will provide 1 death energy. An elite with provide 3 death energy and a boss will provide 20 death energy.

At stage one of the bar 0-9 Omega read has an artificial cap to his health at spirit at -30%, making him very weak for his lack of death energy.
at 10-19 he has an artificial cap to his health and spirit of -20%.
at 20-29 he has an artificial cap to his health and spirit of -10%
at 30+ Omega Red has full health and spirit available.

This shows that Arkady is dependent upon death energy in order to be well, but also allows him to dip and cap his health and spirit, even taking damage of 10% current health and spirit per level dipped below the 0% cap, in effect, hurting himself to power his abilities should the player choose to or not be paying attention to their rotation and is spamming without thinking.

Further, death energy bleeds off at a rate of 1 per 3 seconds that Omega Red is not engaged in combat, to include use of his pheromones (toggle ability) to draw aggro. This pushes the player to become a relentless death machine, consistently engaged in defeating enemies so they don't lose death energy to power abilities or suffer capping of health/spirit as a penalty from bleeding off too much death energy, plus one ability gives bonuses based on death energy reserve, further sweetening the notion of keeping death energy high.

It also balances the character some as the build is pretty powerful, but also prevents the character from being good at boss rushing. I think with the secondary resource working like that, and then using it to power various abilities, makes the play style more strategy based and less one button win, giving players a unique experience for play style. Because the secondary resource can be used in several different ways, the character will require careful planning and balance vs risk/reward calculation to maintain optimal results, and it's also going to make his rotations weird depending upon boss behavior. It won't be for everyone, but it will definitely please players who want more variety in play style and less character clones.

Carbonadium Tendrills

  • Basic Coil attack/whipping (base atttack, starting ability) animation similar to ghost rider judgement, no spirit cost

  • Coil Vault: spinning vault/leap movement 360 degree Area Attack (attack, starting ability, movement, dodge) , omega rotates 360 degrees in the air and adds a whipping from his coils on the end for a strike. low spirit cost

  • Flay: Hold down to whip repeatedly in front of you for spirit cost, hit twice per second

  • Coil Spin: spin while whipping coils for PB AoE physical damage

  • Come Closer: seizes enemies similar to ghost rider's condemn, low spirit cost

  • Coil Strangle (enemy bind + DPS) grips single enemy by throat and does damage twice per second, can be held down for constant spirit spending, medium spirit cost

  • Tendril Shield: Use tendrils to rise up quickly and create a shield, Increase projectile deflection and chance to negate % of incoming frontal physical damage

Death Pheromones

  • Death Factor: Player Based AoE (mid range, hits once per second, starter skill) toggle, if toggled on, death energy bleed is increased to base of 1 every 2 seconds. If death energy is at 100, X % chance non elite mobs (smaller chance elite mobs) gain weaken/slow status inside the death factor area. (base ability) has a wider range than Jean Grey's PB AoE, but does less damage.

  • Coil Drain: Drains Life/Spirit; Melee Coil Grab, applies vulnerable status for X seconds, enemy bind for duration, steals health and spirit from the target and gives to player, takes 20 death energy per second, hits twice per second and heals once per second

  • Sickening Pheromones: PB AOE Slow and vulnerable status, X% stuns non elites as well.

  • Powered By Death: Passive: If you have death energy collected at:

40+ gain X% chance to gain 1 death energy on a hit.
50+ gain X heath on enemy defeat
60+ gain X.X% movement speed
70+ gain X spirit on enemy defeat
80+ gain X to physical defense
90+ gain X to critical hit damage,
100 gain % chance to proc vulnerable status on a hit for X.X seconds, cost to super sprint reduced to zero, Gain +X to all defense

  • Death Battery

Causes More efficient use of death energy.

-2% to death energy cost (minimum of 1 cost) per point of death battery

Adds +0.2 Death energy harvested for each enemy defeat per point of death battery.

  • Omega Destroyer (signature) takes 30 death energy, coils fly in medium area and hit all enemies twice per second, death factor emits, triggers voice acting line, percent chance to knockdown, % chance to slow (appears similar to a slowed down venom infect with wider range)

  • Lingering Death Spores: PB AOE extends just outside melee typical melee range, prevents health and spirit regeneration at just outside of melee range as a PB AoE for X.X seconds, affects players and enemies, potent black aura to indicate to other players that this power is active (and they should move away, or deal with the loss of regen), costs 10 Death Energy, hits twice per second on enemies. Stuns non elite mobs in range, X slows elite mobs in range.

Mutated Super Soldier

  • healing factor: passive/active, passive regen health, active draws 10 from death energy and provides healing burst (base ability) and procs a tenacity buff for X seconds (starting ability)

  • Pummel: Hand to Hand melee attack combo of punches, kicking and coil whipping combo

  • Super Sprint: Movement (sustainable) minimal spirit cost due to superhuman stamina

  • Adrenal Burst: Active, costs 10 death energy, breaks CC effects, procs dodge buff for X seconds.

  • Advanced Training: passive gain X deflect projectile chance with coils, X% bonus to defense, X% bonus to dodge

  • Red Fever: passive/active. passive offers bonus to brutal strike rating and damage, use as active for 30 death energy to apply a rage buff for X.X seconds that gives bonus crit damage and crit chance.

Rogue

Stolen Power is Death Factor.

Ultimate Power

  • Death Harvest: A massive player based AoE that takes up most of the screen and saps life/Spirit, has a smokey black tendril animation on the ground but the player is free to continue beating them down during the use, hits four times per second and prevents regeneration for it's duration, only affects enemies. Stuns non elites for power duration, cower debuff after power, cowers elites and slows elites. Applies vulnerable status to enemies for duration of power and for X seconds as a debuff after power ends. low cooldown of X seconds, but costs 50 death energy, but increases damage and duration with aditional levels. Adds critical and brutal rating buff for X seconds for each enemy defeated during use to a maximum of nine enemies.

Dialog Suggestions

Voice Acting

Omega Red has been voiced in two particular fashions that caught notice, one is the Russian Thick Accept Stereotype shown here:

This style is pretty well covered by Colossus in game anyway, though I would use the video for reference for sound effects.

My thought for Voice acting would be to go the route of this youtube user's imagining with Benedict Cumberbatch (or similar):

I think the voice acting here makes him a bit more of an anti hero rather than another typical growling monster, and thus makes him more relatable, something akin to Kain from the Legacy of Kain series, and that also fits with his proposed backstory better as well, rather than the angry growling and grunting Russian accent that was done in other imaginings, plus it's a clone, so we can assume there is some difference in personality as well as voice inflection.

Dialog options from others to Omega Red:

Mr. Sinister: "Apparently White Sky admires my research... very, very heavily..."
Wolverine: "I should have known a little thing like death couldn't keep a killer like you down."
Sabretooth: "You might think you can change, but you'll always be a killer, it's in your genes."
Captain America: "Different skin, same monster. I'll be watching you."
The Blob: "Looks like you forgot which side you're supposed to be fighting for."
Maverick: "You can take the killer out of the world, but you can't take the killer out of the clone..."
Deadpool: "Hey there snoogy woogums! I've missed you SOOOO much!!!"
Cable: "Some people say war changes folks, but you, I think you've always been this fubar..."
Magneto: "I would sacrifice everything for mutantkind... but for you-- nothing."
Ice Man: "best to keep in step or we'll have you back on ice in no time!"
Rogue: "Whatever you have going on, I'm not interested in it"
Storm: "You are a perversion of nature of the highest order. Keep your distance."
Jean Grey: "Some minds are better left unread."

needed lines from:
Nightcrawler and Colossus, both battled him in the past, but I'm having trouble writing lines there.
Loki, I can see Loki wanting to use Omega Red in some scheme or another.
X 23, it seems like we'd be missing something if there wasn't some interaction here as she's tied into the weapon X program.
Venom: I hesitate to put anything here, because the current Venom isn't like historical venom at all, but if we're going with the new venom notion, I'd imagine the symbiote would find Omega Red interesting, but if we're going classic, I'd imagine Eddie would have some choice words.

Typical Fill In Line: (No offence, but) I think I'll keep a safe distance (, thanks)

Dialog options from Omega Red to others:

Influence for inflection and temperament primarily from psuedo intellectual, calm yet psychotic villains such as Khan of Star Trek, Sauron of Lord of the Rings, Hannibal Lecter of Silence of the Llambs, and the Joker of Dark Knight.

Wolverine: "Greetings old friend, I trust you're in good health these days?" (bit of sarcasm)
Sabretooth: "Your betrayals are so numerous, even if you told me where the carbonadium synthesizer was today, I couldn't take you at your word"
Stryker: "You must have some information for me... how would you prefer me to extract it?"
Deadpool: "It seems we may have some unfinished business to attend to. We'll dance again some time soon, Wade."
Cable: "You fight for an illusion. Mankind, Mutantkind, it makes no difference. They cannot know peace."
Magneto: "You fight for an illusion. Mankind, Mutantkind, it makes no difference. They cannot know peace."
Jean Grey in phoenix form: "We are closer companions than you know or would care to admit..."
Ghost Rider: " I'm sure you believe you've seen suffering, but what good then, is your penance stare when affixed to the soulless eyes of a clone of a monster?"
Daredevil: "Ease yourself. I'm not working with the communists anymore."
Black Widow: Ease yourself. "I'm not working with the communists anymore."
Lady Deathstrike: "You don't want to stand in my way Deathstrike, you know what I'm capable of"
Dum Dum Duggan: "It seems S.H.I.E.L.D. learned they couldn't hold me in their prisons. I wonder how long it will take them to realize they can't control me either. Sleep well tonight, Agent Duggan."
Idle: "All of you enjoy these final moments of peace. Death comes for us all."
Idle 2: "Breath deep; you never know when it may be your last".
Enemy Boss Generic: "The outcome is inevitable, but if you should choose to suffer, I won't deny you your dying wish"
Generic: "Those who would stand in my path, know I will walk over your cold corpses"
Ultimate Power Activation: "Cowardice Brings no Mercy!"
Encountering The Hand: "So these are the fools that let Arkady out of his prison. I wonder how many of them he killed in thanks for his release".
When assaulting Hydra: "So many memories of the hydra... but how many are real, and how many are false?"
A.I.M.: "All of these facilities look alike..."
After defeating Doctor Doom: "I hope I've made my intentions clear enough, doctor."
After returning to the Heli Carrier after defeating doom: "So do you call me an ally now Agent Fury, or is our business merely warfare concealed?"
When Arriving in Norway "I was genetically engineered to be superior, to lead a world at war to peace, but all I brought was death. It seems only here, on the battlefield, am I ever at home."
After defeating Loki in story mode: "I hope I've gotten your attention now."
Low Spirit: I feel the sickness taking hold...

I don't think he needs quotes for breaking an object or low health as anything said there I think might take away from his persona.
