Resource Budget, Heroes, Items, Content, etc...

A long winded post.

TLDR:What my whole point is with resources is that whatever resources that they can save on heroes, items and omegas they can use them on the rest of the game that needs some TLC.

It may have even been the amount of resources that they have been wanting to spend on the heroes all the long.

Also I have seen a lot of games that had bad classes along with the things associated with classes like items and game mechanics die really fast. Whereas I have seen many games last a long while if the rest on the list to follow is below average to close to being a failure.

The purpose of this thread is to provide my personal game playing experience to what I think could help all understand why the changes that will be made to heroes, items, and omegas. I will also use this game as a way to talk about various parts of the game. When I comment on other games it is based on what I have experience playing those games or what I have read on their forums, or have remembered reading on their forums.

We as players hear the devs talk about resource budgets a lot. I have no doubt that the devs of any game have a limited number of resources that are used to develop the game. It is true during the games development before launch. As well as any patches that they game gets after launch. A dev team has to use those resources wisely in order to have a bit hit AAA rated game. There are a lot of areas that they must use those precious resources.

Heroes: In this game heroes are what we are playing as. If too many of them suck big time, are a waste of time to gear up. Or cannot tackle the really big stuff that we want them to handle. Then this game for some might not be for them. That could cause new players to quit.

We can have the best looking world to play in. We can have the best missions to play. We can even have the best story that has ever been seen. But if the heroes suck big time then that is a deal breaker for many. Whether we like it or not heroes are part of the content in a game. Trying having a game world without a character for a gamer to play. Some of you can probably even name a few games where the classes (heroes) of that game sucked big time.

Items: Yes the items that the hero uses to defeat the foes of the world is also important. If those items are bland then that will hurt the game. Here I am thinking about D3 vanilla.

You can have a game that is great in all other areas but if it is lousy in items then it hurts the game like having heroes that suck.

Another thing that I have also seen that could be just about as big of a deal breaker as bad classes (heroes) and items is mechanics.

Mechanics: Here there are a lot of things that come under this umbrella. I have seen some games where they had bad mechanics and it led to be a deal breaker for a lot of players. Couldn't tell if it was just as bad as classes (heroes) and items or not.

UI: Here is one area that can be less than average due to the fact that it can be changed over time. IIRC even WoW had a lackluster UI that was improved by the add-ons that other players made for that game. Because Blizz decided to add those add-ons to WoW.

Story: Sure story is important, but not as big of a deal breaker as the other ones mentioned earlier. If the story is half way decent then the game will be fine. Sure for a small group the story is a deal breaker but not to the level as the earlier mentioned parts.

Quests (missions: Here is another area that can be lackluster. This can be delivered in a wide variety of ways. it can be raids, terminals, one shot story arcs, X defense, Holo-Sim, Danger Room Scenarios, etc... The only way these have become deal breakers is if there is very little to do or the missions that are there are too little. Meaning that if there is not enough things to do then players get bored and leave.

You might even be able to name other games that are bad in the above mentioned areas. Ones that I have either played or have never even heard of.

At this point you might be wondering where I am going with all of this. Please be patient with me and I will tell you.
Since Heroes, items and everything that is connected to them is the foundation of any game. Then that means in order to have a game that many will keep playing the heroes along with everything else associated with them has to be in good shape.

How much resources do you think that Gaz has been spending on heroes, items, omega's, etc.. since the game launched. If they have spent the lion's share on those things then you can probably see why you have some of the other things like content light, some content that is broken. That is because they have been spending a lot of resources in those areas.
You might say then why not pull the resources from the heroes and other things associated with them. That might be fine for a short while, but in the long haul it won't work. We chew through content at light speed. So we would just get done with the latest shiny content and be bored again.

But if they can truly do a great job, and I am hoping that they pull it off, of streamlining the heroes, items, omegas and other things associated with the heroes. To the point where they don't need to spend nearly as much resources on those things. That means that those saved resources can now be spent on the other content that is in this game. Some of it that is already here and needs some TLC. Along with adding in new things to do.

They might even be able to add in new heroes at a faster pace if they wanted to do that. I will now used some made up numbers to give you an idea of what I am talking about.

Let's say that from the start of development to post new changes of the heroes, items and omegas. that they were spending around 70% of their resource budge on heroes, items, and omegas combined. Whereas they were spending only 30% on the other content of the game.

Let's also say that this new system of theirs, even though it will no doubt have it's bugs and problems, saves them anywhere from 20-40% of the resources that they were using for heroes, items and omegas. With that savings they can use it on the other content in the game as well as adding in more new content giving us even more stuff to do.

I have no doubt that right now if Gaz could hop in a Trunks (dragon ball z or dragon ball super) time machine and tell themselves while they were developing the game what they learned now. If they could get their younger selves to listen and develop the heroes, items and omegas like they are gonna be post new changes. That Gaz would do it in a heartbeat.

That is because it may have allowed them to make even more things for us to do in this game. As well as having better heroes, items and an omega system. It could've even meant that the bugs in the current content I am looking at you danger Room Scenarios, as I have read here, may have never even existed.

Please help them make the foundation of this game great so they can turn around and fix the rest of what is wrong with this game. Otherwise they will be forever stuck spending the lion's share of resources on the foundation of the game. Along with the game being forever stuck being content light. See all in the test center when the changes are on the test center.
